TEXTURE
Actual texture This is the actual texture of how the work of art looks and feels to the touch. Works of art can have various actual textures which are created by the artist's choice of materials and how they are handled.
Simulated texture / Implied (Visual Texture) Creating the visual effect of texture without actually adding texture or the visual sensation of texture on a non-textured surface. Simulated textures are created by the manipulation of lights and shadows, line, TONE (TONAL GRADUATION) and other visual elements. Simulated texture can be achieved using a variety of media such as pencil, pen, paint, photography and computer generated imagery.
Trompe l’oeil Visual texture so realistic that it fools the eye into believing it is reality.
Invented/Symbolic textures The creative way of adding alternate materials to create an interesting texture. Invented texture often appearing in abstract works and are created with lines or shapes.
Abstract texture A form of visual texture that has no basis in everyday reality. I
Finally I talked about Additive texture – For example Collage, Papier collé, Photomontage, Dé collage, Decoupage - The students were asked to look up these words as homework!!!
